7 Ways For Idea Girls To Challenge Themselves

If you've been keeping up with Girls With Ideas on social media recently, you've noticed that we've been talking about courage a lot lately. What does it mean to be courageous? For us, part of being courageous means challenging yourself and going outside your comfort zone. That can be really hard, so we've come up with a few ideas for idea girls to challenge themselves.

TEACH YOURSELF A NEW SKILL.

Have you always wanted to learn how to sew? Make remixes of songs? Create a website? Chances are, there's a YouTube video or some sort of online tutorial for it. Set aside some time for yourself and teach yourself a new skill. You'll never know when it'll come in handy.

OVERCOME YOUR FEARS.

What absolutely terrifies you? Try, little by little, to overcome those fears. Part of being courageous is facing fear with adversity, so make an attempt to challenge yourself to not be stopped by your fears. After all, all it does is hold you back.

DEDICATE TIME FOR PHYSICAL EXERCISE.

You don't have to start running six days per week, but finding the time to move your body for at least 20 minutes per day is an awesome way to challenge yourself. There's so many things you can do, from playing soccer to yoga to simply going for a walk with your dog. It's been proven that physical activity leads to better moods and overall health. Might as well try, right?

SMILE AT SOMEONE.

We encounter hundreds of new people per day, but we don't ever really think about what a simple smile can do. We never truly know what someone else is going through. Maybe they were having a bad day and your smile made them feel like someone cares about them. It might be awkward at first, but chances are you'll make their day.

TRY A DAY WITH NO ELECTRONICS.

Some people can't fathom the thought of not checking their phone for an entire day. But to be honest, we all can survive without our electronics for 24-hours. You'd be surprised how much you start to notice when your face isn't glued to a screen.

CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSET.

Chances are you have some clothing in your closet that hasn't been worn for months-- maybe even years. Take some time to clean out your closet and determine items you're willing to part with. Many charity organizations and thrift stores accept donations, so giving back to your community while getting rid of stuff you don't need is awesome.

LEARN A NEW WORD & USE IT.

Not sure how to find a new word? Simply open a dictionary to a random page and select a word you're not familiar with. Try to use it 3 times that day, commit it to memory, and eventually your vocabulary has grown by one word!
