Meet an Idea Girl: Gabrielle Goodwin

Gabrielle Goodwin, aka Gabby, is an idea girl from Columbia, SC. When Gabby was younger, her mother grew tired of her barrettes and hair accessories always falling out of her hair. This began the creation of GaBBY Bows, a line of hair accessories that won't fall out of your hair. These accessories are now sold in retail stores across the country. Gabby is now 10 years old and we had the chance to interview her about her idea. Read on for more.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA?

GaBBY Bows are hair barrettes that do not slip out of any type of hair. They have two faces so you can see the design both ways, and teeth and craters to trap the hair. You wrap hair around the center strip and snap both ends closed. NO MORE LOST BOWS!

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THIS IDEA?

My Mommy was frustrated with me losing my barrettes all the time and got on Twitter to rant about it. Our pastor saw the tweet and said, "Sounds like a market you need to break into." She told me. I was five and every day I would ask her, "When are my bows coming? When are we going to make my bows?" I kept pushing her until we worked on the idea. We started the business when I was seven.

WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED SO FAR AND HOW HAVE YOU OVERCOME THEM?

We have experienced a lot of no's but I have realized that no is the abbreviation for next opportunity.

WHAT ARE SOME GOOD THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED SINCE YOU STARTED YOUR IDEA?

We've gotten lots of media coverage, filled online orders in ALL 50 STATES, I was the youngest winner of South Carolina Young Entrepreneur of the Year in  2015, a national finalists in SBA InnovateHER Competition, SCORE Outstanding Diverse Business of the Year, and SCORE & Sam's Club Small Business Champion.

WHAT DO YOU STILL NEED HELP WITH FOR YOUR IDEA? HOW CAN WE SUPPORT YOU?

We still need money to fill the purchase orders for retail stores. So order some bows and support us!

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG GIRLS THAT WANT TO MAKE THEIR IDEAS HAPPEN?

Persevere and never give up, try your best and work hard. If you believe, you can achieve.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE HOBBIES?

I enjoy dancing, singing, reading, playing with my little brother. I also am involved with ballet and tap dance.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR MANTRA?

Persevere and never give up!
