Being an includer can be extremely difficult. It takes a lot of courage to go against the pack and include someone when they’re feeling left out. But when you do muster up enough courage to include others, you make a lasting impression and could even make someone’s day. We’ve come up with a few simple ideas to help you gather the courage to be an includer.
It never hurts to say hello to someone new. Reach out and introduce yourself to someone you don’t know and you never know what sort of friends you can make.
DARE TO BE DIFFERENT.
Just because everybody else is doing something doesn’t mean that you have to as well. Have the courage to be different. Do what your heart tells you. Include others even if nobody else is.
WHEN YOU SEE SOMEONE ALONE, ASK THEM TO JOIN YOU.
This is one of the simplest ways to be an includer, but unfortunately it doesn’t happen as much as it should. A simple invite to hang out with your group can make someone’s day. Just remember that sometimes people like to be alone, too, so if they say no, it’s probably nothing personal.
PLAN SOMETHING FUN.
Do you have an idea for a fun event or party that you think people would enjoy? Plan it! Use your resources to make it totally awesome. Then, make sure to be inclusive of everyone. The more the merrier, right?
DON'T GET CAUGHT UP IN CLIQUES.
Cliques are dangerous. They exclude others and limit you to a select few people. Don’t be like that; be friends with everyone instead. Having a bunch of different friends allows you to gain different perspectives. Plus, wouldn’t you want to be the girl that’s friends with everyone than the cliquey girl?
